Residents and visitors to Dallas looking for events commemorating the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination this fall can now access information about all area-wide JFK events in one place: www.JFK50thevents.org.
The interactive online calendar, created by The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, includes more than 50 exhibits, lectures, film premieres, author appearances, performances and special events presented throughout the community in observance of the anniversary.
The site can be accessed directly via the URL and is also linked from the museum’s website (www.jfk.org). Entries can be located by date or event type, and saved to a personal calendar. The calendar lists all known area programs, not just those presented or co-sponsored by the museum. Each entry links to the sponsoring organization’s respective website and/or ticket portal.
Nicola Longford, The Sixth Floor Museum’s executive director, said the site was created after staff received dozens of inquiries from guests asking about events taking place during the anniversary. “We realized we were in a unique position to provide this resource to the community, thanks to our many collaborations with and assistance to area museums and organizations,” she said. “The volume and variety of programs being offered illustrate the richness of our arts community and speak to the legacy of President Kennedy.”
Organizations offering JFK-related events that aren’t listed are invited to submit their information to the museum at firstname.lastname@example.org.
