The 2009 Casual Classics Series opens with an exciting conducting debut, as Assistant Conductor Designate Rei Hotoda takes the podium. Hotoda, who officially steps into her role in September of 2009, will conduct the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s Suite from Swan Lake and Shostakovich’s Festive Overture.

Enjoy a taste of Italy as the DSO performs works by Italian composers! The DSO’s own Principal Trumpet Ryan Anthony takes center stage, and Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture will shine as the evening’s musical star. The evening will also cover a whole range of emotions as Verdi’s Triumphal March and Ballet from Aida, an excerpt from Puccini’s Manon Lescaut and Respighi’s Ancient Airs.

The 2009 Casual Classics Series comes to a dramatic close with Music Director Jaap van Zweden leading the DSO in a program featuring the repertoire the orchestra will perform at the Bravo Vail Valley Music Festival in July, which will include Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 and Hungarian Dance No. 5
