The devastating impact of the earthquake that hit the poorest nation in the western hemisphere has compelled many of us to action. An estimated 3 million people have been left in need of shelter, clean water, clothes, food, etc. Have a hard time wrapping your brain around that number? That is comparable to almost every person in the ENTIRE DFW Metroplex. To see the pictures, the videos, and the stories, we know there is still so much left to be determined.
How can we help? Where do we start?
There are organizations all over the world coming together to provide emergency relief. They are all asking for monetary donations ONLY. There just isn’t any time to spend collecting in-kind donations like blankets and clothing. Here are a few ways you can help.
The Red Cross
The International Federation of the Red Cross is directing $200,000 for immediate assistance. If you would like to help with relief efforts, text “HAITI” to “90999” and $10 will be automatically given to the Red Cross, and charged to your cell phone bill. You can also donate online.
UMCOR
The United Methodist Committee On Relief was one of the first responders to the earthquake aftermath. They are providing temporary shelters, food, clean kits, and water. They are accepting donations for the Haiti Emergency fund.
Doctors Without Borders
This organization deploying staff to help at severely damaged medical facilities. They are accepting donations for medical supplies and immediate relief.
Food for the Poor
This organization is providing direct relief assistance to the nation of Haiti. They have a page on their website dedicated to Haiti relief donations.
