Ellen Shares Her Favorite Things For The Holidays: The Holiday Lights of Highland Park and Shopping at NorthPark
“A couple of friends get together and bring a thermos of cocoa or cider in the car, drive around Highland Park singing along to Christmas tunes in the car. We take turns driving so everyone gets a turn to GAZE at all the lights and beautiful houses. My favorite part of the Highland Park light tour is the gigantic oak in the median of Armstrong where it crosses Preston Road…I watched them putting the lights on it last week… It’s so pretty!
My other favorite thing involves shopping. I pick one day of the holiday season to go shop at Northpark, because the idea of going multiple times drives me nuts. But on my one day shopping adventure I never even notice! I shop a little before lunch, sit down at La Madeline in front of Dillard’s and have a bowl of tomato basil soup and people watch for a while, which is thoroughly entertaining, then finish shopping.
Northpark is always decorated so well and sometimes they even have live music groups that perform during the holidays so it’s extra fun if I catch one of those performances while I’m there.”
