Goodfriends Beer Garden and Burger House
Living in East Dallas has its advantages. The proximity to White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum, being away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown and Uptown traffic just to name a few.
However, the one the thing I miss most about living in Downtown Dallas is having a cool place to hangout. A local bar or pub that serves great food and drinks. There is no denying that Uptown Dallas overflows with trendy restaurants, bars and watering holes.
While East Dallas has its share of nice restaurants, it was lacking in cool hangout spot with good food. That was until Goodfriends Beer Garden and Burger House opened on Peavy Road. Owners Josh Yingling and Matt Tobin opened Goodfriends a few months ago in a strip shopping center next door to another new restaurant, Good-to-Go Tacos. Which is no accident, since Good 2 Go chefs Colleen O’Hare and Jeana Johnson also prepare the food for Goodfriends.
Goodfriends Beer Garden and Burger House has an extensive American craft beer menu that includes Lagunitas, Stone, Ommegang, Avery and Brooklyn and many more. If you are not a beer drinker, they also have a great selection of cocktails.
The food at Goodfriends features fabulous natural grass-fed burgers with meats from Rudolph’s Meat Market and buns from Empire Bakery. As well as classic sandwiches, salads a fantastic hot dog in puffed pastry (think: giant pig the blanket), a black bean veggie burger and homemade sides like sweet potato waffle fries.
On my first visit, I tried The Loretta, a Blue Cheese Bacon Burger. I am not a fan of blue cheese, but this burger with the sweetness of the carmelized onions, the saltness of the bacon managed to tame the flavor of the bleu cheese. It was fabulous!
The menu is moderately priced, with the most expensive item at $12.oo a couple can enjoy a drink and burgers for less than $40.00.
