On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, the members of Corporate Concierge, Inc.  headed a bit south of Dallas to experience Smoke Restaurant’s famed farm to fork cuisine. Just hop on the Tollway, go south, take I-30W and you’re there!

What an experience!

Smokeis different from any other local barbeque restaurant, simply because of chef/owner Tim Byer’s vision. My interpretation of his vision is good ole’ clean comfort food served with a smile and a dose of elegance.  Simply put– elegantly casual.

The mouth-watering, all-natural, in-house smoked meats are slow cooked to perfection. The vegetables are home-grown and cooked  just-so–meaning that you can actually taste the freshness. The prices are reasonable and most lunch items were under ten dollars.

Our lunch was served to us home style—in baskets lined with paper and heaped with delicious ribs, brisket and chicken. Side dishes were to die for! Coleslaw, homemade pickles, and one dish we all could not get enough of—a cheesy polenta gratin that had chunks of hominy and a hint of green chile and garlic. YUM!

So that’s the casual part of my definition of elegantly casual. The elegance came in the form of beautiful artwork, cozy seating and excellent table service. We sampled a wonderful French Merlot, as well as a decadent molasses and pecan pie.

In the end, we were all wonderfully satiated (i.e. in Texan, ‘stuffed-to-the gills ‘), not quite ready to go back to work. I will definitely go back to Smoke at the Belmont and take friends and family. A totally wonderful and delicious experience I highly recommend to all!

Smoke  has two dining areas, a bar and cool patio. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also offer several vegetarian options. All menu items are priced $25 and lower.

  1. i loved lunch…and went for breakfast a few weeks ago – the coffee was amazing and i’m still dreaming about the blueberry pancakes…:)

  2. The chef and owners at SMOKE are fabulous! The food was fun, innovative, fresh and delicious. I agree, a repeat visit would be fantastic. The burger Mike ordered was photo worthy, the biggest and most decked-out burger I had ever seen. I encourage everyone to go try SMOKE.

  3. I don’t know what to say …Oh yes I do. This place is wonderful! Not only did they treat us like Kings and Queens with the service when our group was there, but we tasted just about everything on the menu. And since the food kept coming I kept eating. I had to make sure this was not just a show, put on just for us, so I went back 3 times to check them out. Dinner, Breakfast, and dinner again–and it was an act. They acted the same way they did when I was there with my group. I love this place and I also love the fact that each time I am there I run into clients, friends, and people I work with. This is what Dallas needs a true neighborhood spot with great food and service!

  4. I have to say that SMOKE is one of my new favorite places to eat in Dallas. The food is delicious – down-home style, comfort food. And, there’s something for everyone!

I recently went to dinner there and had a vegetarian in my group and they were completely satisfied, too. They have a separate vegetarian menu! The service is spot on without being pushy and the atmosphere is casual with a fun and “kitchy” air about it. I love the Hotel Belmont and SMOKE is another reason to run to the Oak Cliff area and “rediscover” it if you haven’t already!
