Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden along with the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden are great places for you and your family to spend a summer afternoon. In addition to the many flowers, trees and other plants, the Dallas Aboretum offers several events celebrating the Year of the Child.
Upcoming programs include the following:
Into the Garden
Monday, June 16 from 9-11 a.m.
Sounds of sheer delight and merriment will drift from the morning fundraising event that will be held in the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden, chaired by Marisa Huckin. This will be a rare opportunity for children, parents and or grandparents to have the Children’s Garden to themselves.
Special entertainment will add even more fun to the event and all guests will enjoy yummy morning refreshments. This merry event will benefit programs for the Children’s Garden. For an invitation to the event, please contact Torie Parsons at 214.515.6520 or tparsons@dallasarboretum.
Gardenlicious Kids Cook-off
Sunday, June 29 from 1-3 p.m. — Camp House
To complement the educational takeaways of the Incredible Edible Garden at the Children’s Adventure Garden, Chairwoman Carol Goglia has enlisted the help of beloved Dallas chefs Kent Rathbun and Scott Gottlich and restaurateur Lynae Fearing for a children’s healthy food cook-off.
Using at least one ingredient grown in the Incredible Edible Garden, children will cook and submit a healthy item to be judged by celebrity chefs. The tables will turn when children get to judge dishes from the participating chefs. For more information, contact Torie Parsons at 214.515.6520 or tparsons@dallasarboretum.org.
Designing with Flowers, Sticks and Stones
Tuesday, July 22, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. — Camp House
Elementary and Middle school students (Grades 1-8) will learn tricks of design for fun, whimsical, beautiful or out-of-this-world arrangement in this arts and crafts activity. Event is free, but registration is required.
Wings of Life Movie Night
Tuesday, July 29, 6 p.m. — Rosine Hall
The Dallas Arboretum will host a family nature movie night to show the acclaimed Disneynature documentary Wings of Life. Narrated by Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, the film employs stunning imagery to showcase the unsung heroes of the world’s food supply, showcasing the relationship between flowers and the increasingly threatened bees, butterflies, birds and bats that enable plants to reproduce.
Adding to the ambiance of a movie-going experience, snacks, such as $1 popcorn and $1 hotdogs, will be available for purchase. Adult tickets are $5, children are $2, and children under 3 are free. Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended, but tickets, if available, can be purchased onsite.
